This is my list of things to do in Nebraska, which except for the first example, works for the rest of the nation. Enjoy!

1. Ski! That's right we can ski here in Nebraska, although its cross-country not the mountain type.

2. Go to Movies! Every family's favorite holiday event. However, in Lincoln we can't watch any controversial films so your options are limited to Passion of the Christ, Chronicles of Narnia, and The Greatest Story Ever Told. Last year, Christmas Story was banned for being too "secular".

3. Drink and Drive! Every Christmas Eve after hours and hours of drinking eggnogg to dull the pain of family arguments, Dad gathers the kids into the minivan in order to drive around town and look at Christmas lights. Rarely are there any accidents, however, many trees, mailboxes, and nativities enjoy their last Christmas.

4. Watch Football! Need a reason to get out of family get togethers? What better way to ditch out than to watch a football game! It sure beats the excuse of having to work.

5. Go to church. Notice, no explanation point. This is the equivalent of attending a surprise birthday party for your girlfriend's best friend. You don't want to be there, there's no booze, and it lasts way too long! At least it's only once a year! (notice explanation point)

6. Open Presents! It's your birthday for the second time this year! (Very unfortunate if your birthday is Dec 25...unless your name is Jesus) Even if you only get underwear and scarves, it's free! It saves you the time and money of buying that crap. Only possible downfall: you may realize that someone else's 2nd birthday is more important than yours because they received more presents.

7. Rest! On the seventh day the lord rested and for our seventh thing to do in Nebraska during the Holidays, so should you. After all, that stress from church about going to hell was almost enough to make you go every Sunday, it's true people actually do it. Next thing you know your behind bars for some hate crime an you just thought you were doing God's will by killing that gay man. Religion and booze just don't mix. See, it's safer to just rest.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, to everyone in the world...enjoy your religious and non-religious day(s)! May peace be with everyone.

Best Music of 2005

End of year Music Spectacular
Here are the 13 best albums of the year described in 6 words or less!
13. Although I believe that it should have been under a more experienced director, the film had a lot to say and said it well. I think it there is an obvious distinction between this work and Traffic in terms of pacing and putting the story together. I think it could have drawn more attention with, say Sorderbergh at the helm because he obviously better known and more experienced. Usually, I would not mind, however, I would have liked to see this film do better. It still has a chance.

Curious as to where Syriana came from and what it means? Wikipedia says:

"Some have suggested that it comes from Pax Syriana, as an allusion to the necessary state of peace between Syria and the U.S. as it relates to the oil business. In a December 2005 interview, Baer told NPR that the title is a metaphor for foreign intervention in the Middle East, referring to post-World War II think tank strategic studies for the creation of an artificial state (such as Iraq, created from the elements of the former Ottoman Empire) that would ensure continued U.S. access to crude oil."

I was lucky enough to see an interview with Stephen Gaghan (the writer/director) on PBS. The most amazing thing about this film is that it is based on actual events that have happened in our history involving the CIA and large corporations. That's not to say everything is based on oil companies and the Middle East, but all over the world. For example, take the overthrow of Guatemala's freely elected government in 1954. United Fruit Company had owned much of the unused land that Guatemala's new president began to take back and redistribute to the actual people of the country. Previously, only 10 % of the land was available to 90 % of the people. Obviously United Fruit Company was scared and pressured the US government into overthrowing the government. With the CIA's help the government of Guatemala with a right-wing dictatorship that did whatever United Fruit Company wanted. The CIA has been involved in nearly every dictatorship born in South America. If you don't think that the oil companies pressured our government into invading Iraq, then why was there the claim that the oil would pay for the war? Where's that money now?

Our government claims to support freedom yet too often forces dictatorships upon countries who HAD elected governments. The President still sees nothing wrong with eavesdropping on people within the US, without warrants. If this is such a threat to our safety, then why would it be so hard to get warrants? He says he is doing everything he can to protect our civil liberties. Taking away civil liberties seems to be a weird way of protecting them. I guess it's like taking away the votes from Florida's minority population to protect them from misusing their right to vote (as was done in the 2000 election).

The film also does, what is apparently Un-Patriotic, humanize terrorists. This is the one thing that our society needs to see. Our president constantly calls them the enemy, and says that we must kill "the enemy". Sure that makes everyone feel safe even though by using violence we are only instigating more tension and hatred. Instead, I believe that first we should educate the countries that breed terrorists. We should be very critical of our allies, like Saudi Arabia, which bred the majority of the 9/11 hijackers. And we should use political tactics not war to persuade these countries. Matt Damon's character has a great speech about how the Middle Eastern royalties are wasting away their money, not building infrastructure and educational systems. He says the business world is laughing at them because when the oil runs out they will be back to living in the desert chopping each others heads off. This is exactly the truth. The US does not care about the Iraqi people. We only care about keeping oil prices high. If there was no oil there then the US would not care, just look at Africa.

So go see the movie, write your opinions, and if you have time, write your state politicians and beg them to vote against the reinforcement of the Patriot Act.

Bushishm of the Week

"We had a chance to visit with Teresa Nelson, who's a parent, and a mom or a dad."
George W. I have missed so much, I only hope that I can catch up on everything in this entry.

President Bush gave a speech last week that detailed his master plan for "Victory in Iraq". How people can even believe anything he says is beyond me. However, those on Fox News, who a couple of weeks ago were criticizing him about his 36% approval rating are now again in love with him. It's not because of anything Georgie boy did however, rather because Senator Murtha took a stand that was in direct opposition to the Republican party. I have to give the Republicans credit because credit is due. They are political geniuses, they have spun Senator Murtha's proposal into their idea and at the same time discrediting him. They claim that he is controlled by emotion and thus made an uncharacteristic crazy plan. The Republicans are claiming that the Democrats want to leave Iraq and lose while they want to leave Iraq as well but they want to do it in victory. What victory? Is it taking down a country that was seeking to attain weapons of mass destruction? No. How about bringing safety from opression and terror of an evil dictator? Well, sort of. It's no longer from a dictator.

Back to President Bush, his administration, and the propaganda and lies they spit out. How smart is the Republican party? As we all know Bush has never said flat out that there are ties between September 11, Al Queda, and Iraq. However, what he and his cronies have done is often times put them in the same sentence. This allows the administration to thwart any attacks by democrats while still manipulating public opinion. The most common example is the percentage of Americans who believed Iraq had something to do with the attacks on September 11. Directly after 9/11, only 3 percent of Americans polled believed that Iraq and Saddam had any connection to the attack. In January of 2003, after Bush creatively claimed there was no connection, 44 % of Americans believed that "most" or "some" of the hijackers were from Iraq despite the fact that none of them were.

So you may wonder why this is important now. For one thing, Bush continues to claim that he is a leader that is protecting the United States, somehow he managed to prove this in the last election over a highly decorated Vietnam Vet. However, who is to say that if he read his Presidential Daily Briefs prior to 9/11 that the threat couldn't have been stopped. But even if it couldn't, it must be noted that invading Iraq has actually increased the rise of terrorism in the Middle East. And now, where there was little, if not any, terrorism taking place(Iraq) there now is. Secondly, just a couple of days ago the 9/11 commission came out and said that we are no safer today from terrorist attacks, and "God help us" when there is another attack. Notice that I said when not if, just as the commission did.

What's interesting is how the Republicans get the citizens to believe these lies. As I pointed out earlier, one way is to link ideas without delibertly connecting. Another way is to have your entire party go on different news channels and shows and spit out the same rhetoric and propaganda. For those of us, like myself, that do not have enough time to watch the news 24/7, thankfully the Daily Show usually sums them up once a week. Another trick they use is to demonize words and actions. For example, somehow the words "secular" and "liberal" have become associated with evil. The Democrats have actually aided them in the effort by changing their label to "progressives". They also label moral decisions as "flip-flopping". I don't know about you but when I make a mistake in judgement and realize it, I try my best to correct that mistake. If this is flip-flopping, then wouldn't all born again Christians be flip-floppers including our current President? Not to mention that Kerry along with many other democrats who allegedly voted for the war actually voted to give the President authority to go to war as a last result. The President said he would go as a last result and then did not. Thus, in response Kerry and those other Democrats called it an unjust war only to be labeled as a flip-flopper when it was the President who flip-flopped on his promise.

As if that wasn't enough for one missed week, then it was released that the government has been paying newspapers and journalists in Iraq to publish US-friendly articles. Apparently it isn't enough to lie to the American public about how well the war is going, now we need to tell the Iraqi's how great their life is, especially those with missing limbs or worse missing family members. It's interesting to see how upset we are that over 2,000 US soldiers have died in Iraq. Just think how upset the Iraqi's are that according to, "a military analyst at the Brookings Institution who has closely followed the war's casualties, said an average of 1,500 to 2,000 Iraqis have been killed each month." There was an estimated 30,000 deaths as of October.

Wow, and I didn't even talk about the secret torture jails, our acceptance and use of torture, or Bush's lie about why the Middle East hates us, because we're free and prosperous. I guess I'll have to come back tomorrow.

Bushism of the Week: Week 3

"I'm not an expert on how the Iraqi people think, because I live in America, where it's nice and safe and secure."
George W. Haven't you learned anything from your righteous neighbors of the south?

Recently the government of Canada was toppled because of a vote of no-confidence issued by the three opposition parties in the House of Commons. Obviously this is what happens when liberals take over any government. It starts with seemingly great benefits like free medicine, gun control, and welfare. However, this week Liberalism showed it's true face...Corruption. Maybe the young wolf of a senator Joseph McCarthy had it right condemning liberals and labeling them Communists in the 1950's. Maybe Canada can finally learn a lesson from the grand US of A and finally get those Conservatives back into their divine seats. Life can be great again between the North American allies.

Unfortunately, the Republican party went and ruined this North American Utopia. The party that claimed to be starting a new era of politics and accountability seems to be falling apart in scandal and corruption. Michael Scanlon recently confessed to basically stealing money from Native American tribes. Just yesterday, "Duke" Cunningham resigned after admitting that he took over 2 million in bribes from defense contractors. Don't forget about Tom Delay and Bill Frist either. Does the public really know how deep the corruption goes? Obviously not when many news channel talk shows blow it off as just a regular occurrence in Washington. They claim that this is what makes our government work. So here are just some examples of our government working well for our benefit.

Scanlon and his "partner in crime" Jack Abramoff received $32 million from the Louisiana Coushatta tribe so that they could help shut down a competing casino in Texas. To get help from the church they laundered the money through a front called the Americans for Tax Reform. They then approached the tribe who ran the same casino they worked to shut down and offered to help them reopen it. Both ran off with a total of $4.2 million without reopening the casino.

Of course, one of Abramoff's closest and dearest friends is none other than Delay(you know the ex-Senate Majority leader who claims to have no part in money laundering or unethical deeds). Both Abramoff and Delay fought to secure the way of life for the manufacturers of Saipan( for more information : http://www.cnn.com/2005/POLITICS/05/09/real.delay/index.html). What does this way of life consist of? How about paying low wages, forced prostitution, and even worse, forced abortions! Delay even claimed that what was happening in Saipan was, "...a shining light for what is happening in the Republican Party." I think Al Franken said it best,

Although the Saipan episode does call Delay's "pro-life" credentials into question, at least he was being consistent on the issue of "choice." On the mainland, Tom Delay doesn't want women to be able to choose to have an abortion. On Saipan, he thinks it's okay if they can't choose not to.

The "problem" with Canada is that they have too many political parties! If you want to claim political responsibility while engaging in unethical antics you can't do it with three enemies, or as Canada calls "opposition parties." That leaves too many people to smear and blame in order to keep the country's confidence.

I'm not saying that this isn't a problem within the Democratic Party. It is something that has infested every aspect of government and thus needs to change. Unfortunately, several politicians fall into the grip of greed and are forced to lie in public to keep face. Fortunately, the lies of these politicians are beginning to catch up to them and the people are speaking(36% approval rating!). We want to believe in our politicians and leader, that's why they were elected. That's why even Democrats believed that there was a need for war in Iraq and the citizens supported it. The blame should not be placed on those who trust our President and our politicians, but rather on those who use lies to further their own agenda.

Thanksgiving Special

I am now entering the second week of my weblog. So far so good, unfortunately I haven't had any comments posted yet...maybe things will pick up this week. I would like to thank every one of my visitors and ask you to continue to visit my site. I am quite new at this and have already began to realize how tough of a life a blogger has. I am trying to keep enough humor in my blogs but some of the things going on in the world right now make it difficult. Not to mention all of my school work and full time employment holding me down. So I ask all of you to keep coming back, write your opinions whether they parallel mine or oppose. That's what this is for to get everyone thinking, especially the youth.

I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving, and remember that the legend of Thanksgiving is nothing more than a myth. If you seek a little of the truth check out the book, Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong by James W. Loewen. Not only will you learn a little about Thanksgiving but also about many other events in our history that have been misrepresented. Have a great holiday weekend. For my international visitors, keep on fighting for what you believe in! The USA will wake up soon and again fight for human rights!

Bushism of the Week: Week 2

"And so during these holiday seasons, we thank our blessings."
George W. They continue to bring up false accusations, as Hannity did last year about a New Jersey school banning "Silent Night", and contributing it towards some liberal conspiracy. The ACLU is targeted throughout the year for attacking Christianity but never more so than late November through the end of December. Both the ACLU and the Americans United for Separation of Church and State are demonized for doing nothing more than protecting the civil rights of people who worship under another religion. Certain TV "journalists" asked, "What's wrong with having God in school?" Absolutely nothing, if you go to a private religious school. What the right wing conservatives and Christians are not realizing is that this in not a Christian country. Public schools cannot show favoritism to one religion or another, it's plain and simple. Christmas has evolved into a secular holiday over the last century and that alone makes it possible to be celebrated in schools. Therefore, holdiay classics can be performed such as, Rudolph the Rednosed Reindeer, White Christmas, and Winter Wonderland. However, when these songs are performed without any Christian hymns alongside the Christian right becomes outraged. If you want to experience a nice Christian Christmas show, there are more than enough Churches that offer you this opportunity. Celebrate your right to worship your religion.

If a school decided to celebrate another religion's holy day I guarantee these same people would cry that it was an invasion of Church and state. However, their "enemies" over at the ACLU would be very quick to join them in protest. If schools are to hold any kind of religious celebration then they must hold one for every religion. If this were the case there would be no time for actual teaching and learning except for religious material. The purpose of school is for education, not religious worship. This same battle is what led to Title IX, which makes Universities offer equal opportunities for women as it does for men, particularly with sports. The main argument for this is that women's sports do not bring in the same amount of money as men's and that many men's programs have had to be cut because they cannot afford to fund more women's programs. So should women be treated unfairly? No.

It's interesting that Christians are even fighting to keep Christmas in schools. In fact, this is what created the secular celebration of this holy holiday. They should be upset that public schools and work places have corrupted this sacred day. Even most Christians lose track of what is supposed to be important, they may say a prayer and go to Church, but after that the only important thing is what's inside the wrapping paper. How many of them are disappointed when their brother has more presents than them, or when they get underwear instead of a new videogame. How many of them actually do something that the Jesus they worship would have done? Why not listen to his teachings and apply them to life. Go volunteer at a homeless shelter, offer love to those who you claim are "living in sin", or enjoy a Christmas without presents but share time with the family singing Christmas hymns and praying for forgiveness.
Remember this holiday season that this country has many different wonderful people who worship or choose not to worship the religion of their choice. Religion offers many benefits to society but when used and abused to serve political purposes it counters its original intent. As much as I can see, there is no War on Christmas, only a Christian War on Other Religions.

Unintelligent Design To Be Taught In Schools

In another twist to the battle between Church and State, the Vatican Astronomer, Rev. George Coyne, said placing intelligent design in school science programs was "wrong". Just last week the Pope claimed that there was some "intelligent project". Was this a surprise to anyone? Not sure if you can become the Pope without believing this. Sorry Rev. Coyne. However, the Christian Right seems to be missing the point, the same point in which Coyne discussed: intelligent design is not science...it's faith(for non-Catholics and those who do not have a television or the ability to read, the Vatican is the Headquarters for the Catholic Army, which should be noted is armed with bibles not swords or any other type of weapon...for those who cannot read you can access the audio version of this website www.buzzkillne.blogspot.com/audio may not be accessible due to blackout in some regions).

The only real reasoning behind the argument to put intelligent design in public schools is to acquire votes for Republicans and/or Democrats who agree with this idea. The Constitution protects the right of all religions, not just Christianity. To prove how tolerant they are, they will argue that intelligent design does not mean their God. Yet as soon as one town, city, or state votes against intelligent design, the fanatics come out and warn that now God(the Christian one) will turn His back on the people, even to the point of predicting natural disasters. Now there's an idea, schools should also suggest that "natural disasters" are maybe not natural after all, it's all part of the intelligent design. Why stop with just adressing this issue, sorry, "science"? Why not have an entire class dealing with intelligent design. The semester would start out with creating the entire infinite universe in 6 days. The next few lessons could discuss other scientific facts of the Bible, like How to Survive in the Belly of a Whale, How to Live for 900 + years, How People were Brought Back from the Dead, and my favorite, the Power of Prayer. This would take up most of the semester and be covered on the final, but the last day of class would be Intelligent Potpouri, covering all other religions. Students could dress up as their favorite Intelligent Designer, read their favorite passage from an Intelligent Design science book of their choice, (Bible, Koran, etc.) and of course start a Science riot over whose Designer had the real Intelligence.

Of course, then there would have to be another course created to keep the ACLU off the public schools' backs. Unintelligent Design. This class would suggest that the universe is too complex for an amateur being to create and thus is on an inevitable downward spiral to extinction. Section One, an Intelligent being would have spent more than 6 days creating the Universe. Section 2, Proof of Unintelligent Design:Humans(Created in the "likeness of God"). That section might take up the majority of the semester but would leave just enough time for Fire and Brimstone... if there hasn't been a Nuclear Fallout yet. At the end of the semester, both classes could have a debate followed by a metaphorical stoning of the losing team by literally stoning them, just not to death.

Or we could just keep Religion where it belongs, in private schools and out of public schools.

In Michaelangelo's famous painting God appears to be surrounded by the shape of a brain? It seems that in today's greedy, agent infested sports world all of our so called heroes are falling short. After Jordan there was no where left to turn, he continued to put out shoes even after retirement(and continues to sell Gatorade, who knew that would ever work!). However, when Nike and other companies began trying to spice up the advertisement they chose athletes like Dennis Rodman, A.I., and The Freak! Maybe not the best choices for a role model, but they still sold shoes. The mistake came in late 1999 when Nike's Lawrence Phillips Running Man shoe was taken off the market due to numerous protests following his 15th arrest. Then as if an angel from heaven was sent to earth, Kobe Bryant began to dominate the NBA. He was the "it" man, he had a head on his shoulders to go along with his child sweetheart wife on his arm. Like the others though, Kobe was no saint. Where can these ad agencies look? Who has the love of the people to go along with a sense of moral integrity?
The answer is George W. Bush. The answer is so simple, he understands the American people, and apparently the Iraqis, and now he even claims to know the Chinese. 36% approval rating sounds bad, but I guarantee that Kobe can't get 36% of NBA fans to love him, and Dwayne Wade? 36% of the NBA players don't even know who he is!

However, Georgie's latest claim begins to poke some holes of doubt in his shroud of honesty. Does he really know the Chinese people? On Tuesday, November 15th(not sure if this is Tuesday US time or Tuesday Chinese time) he said, "I have pointed out that the people of China want more freedom to express themselves," Ok, "... to worship without state control ..." ok, still agree. But then, "and to print Bibles and other sacred texts without state control." Oh no he didn't! Unfortunately he did say this. Why is this such a startling point? Let me try to explain. There are 1.3 billion people living in China(thats 1,300,000,000,000) of which the overwhelming majority are non-religious. Ok, so how many are Christians? An astonishing 8 million(that's 8,000,000). We're already missing 5 zeros here, so that means that less than 1%, hell less than 1% of 1% of the population is Christian. A rough estimate puts it at about .0062 % of the population is Christian. So I doubt that the Chinese are really interested in printing Bibles without state control, unless of course they are planning to sell them to other countries or use the pages to make homemade cigarrettes. In fact, a statement that would better represent the Chinese people yet still be misleading would be, "...and to print Korans and other sacred texts," because China's largest organized religious group is Islam. However as previously stated, the OVERWHELMING majority are NON-RELIGIOUS. It's no wonder that other countries do not take us seriously and continue to believe we only advance our interests in the world. It's no secret that China's military and economy are rising, it's time we begin to understand them and look for ways to work with them instead of trying to keep our international hegemony intact.

If Bush can actually understand the world, then I think there's a future for him in shoe sales as soon as he's done with this President gig.

Support America! However, one bumper sticker argues that "Freedom is not Free." Chew on that for a while America. Yes, it's true that freedom may cost a bit more than we bargained for, but for just a couple dollars we can exercise one of our Constitutional rights, the right of free speech. That's right, for as low as $.99 you can slap on generalization/stereotype/fanatical belief of your choice to the bumper of your Dodge Caravan and make your voice heard. Who knows, you may even change someone's life because of it. Sure, there's plenty of bumper sticker posers out there who believe that their Constitutional right(given by God!) is something to laugh about. You see it everyday, some joker slapped on a sticker for humorous purposes like, "If you can read this, then you are following to close," and, "My other car has funnier stickers." This "Don't Worry Be Happy" mentality is demoralizing our society and disrespectful to those who have shed their blood to protect our freedoms. If you want to Americanize that Honda and redeem your patriotism then say something important. We need more straight shooting Americans in this country, not whining wimps, aka Democrats(see www.bumprstickrz.com/rightwingbumperstickers.html) who aren't afraid to put those flag burning hippies in their place. If you haven't heard, our President is all balls, now it's your turn to be a patriot. Even the Catholic Church is following in his footsteps claiming, "You Can't Be Catholic and Pro Choice." That might be hard to believe, but sometimes the truth hurts.
So the next time you think about buying that, "Don't Steal The Government Hates Competition" sticker, remember that this is, "America Love It or Leave It."

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://buzzkillne.blogspot.com/2005/11/support-america-buy-bumper-sticker.html' title='Support America!
